Spring 2019: 13-week sprint

THE CHALLENGE

How might we foster an environment of psychological safety and a sense of resilience in the workplace, so that employees can show up as their most creative selves?

THE OUTCOME

An app that guides and encourages
employees to reflect on their past professional missteps, with the option to share with the teams, in a facilitated conversation.

Apps Case Study:

Failure Résumé

Survey results from 20+ intercept interviews helped shape the first versions of the Failure Résumé app.

ABOUT

PROCESS

Failure Résumé was built over the course of a 13-week sprint, as part of a graduate thesis program. The sprint followed the squiggly path of the design thinking process: research to identify a paint point or target audience, concept development, user testing, iteration, iteration, iteration.

The app's target audience, as identified through desk research, digging through internet forums, intercept interviews, and user testing.

USER FLOW

Users are guided to log their professional failures one-by-one (jobs they didn’t get, grants they weren’t awarded, presentations they bombed, etc.), and then they are prompted to reflect on what went wrong and set goals or learning agendas for ‘failures’ that are still unresolved.
